New Car Maintenance

Congratulations on your new car! You probably want to hang onto it for as long as possible, so here’s a few tips on how to maintain it as well as possible!

The owner’s manual will give recommendations from the manufacturer regarding service intervals. It’s imperative to follow these recommendations so you don’t void the new car warranty!

One common recommendation calls for synthetic oil for the car’s engine. Synthetic oil provides better protection and is more stable at high and low temperatures. If your owner’s manual advises a 10,000-mile oil change, stick with that and be sure to use the brand and grade of motor oil called for in the manual.

A properly waxed vehicle does more than just look good! By applying a good coat of wax and then another on top of that, you can help repel grit and grime that causes damage to the finish of your brand new vehicle.

From time to time, it’s good to clean the radiator. You can use the spray setting on your hose to get rid of the bugs and grim lodged in the radiator. These bugs and grime can impair cooling.

Check the air filter every few months – you can take it out and hold it up to a bright light. If no light passes through, the air filter is too dirty and needs to be changed. A dirty air filter can diminish fuel economy and performance.

If you stick to manufacturer’s recommendations, you can’t go wrong…and you’ll have a car you can count on for many years to come!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call Stroebel Automotive at (989) 781-4307– we’re always happy to help!
