Brakes need regular inspection.

There are important parts that wear out or wear down on your brake system, and it’s best to have them inspected before you have problems.

There are two types of brake systems.

Disk brakes: a rotor or “disk”, is attached to the axle of the vehicle. Padded calipers straddle the rotor, which close when the brakes are applied. The resulting friction causes the rotor and the axle to stop turning.

Drum Brakes: Brake pads (also called brake shoes) press against the inside of a drum to create friction and stop the drum, and hence wheels, from turning.

Brake System Warning Signs

You know you need brake repair when:

  • The anti-lock brake system (ABS) or Brake warning indicator comes on in your vehicle.
  • The brake pedal is spongy or slow to respond.
  • You hear grinding or constant squealing during braking.
  • You notice fading to one side or the other when brakes are applied

We recommend you bring your vehicle in for inspection if any of the conditions above occur. It is also a good idea to have your brakes inspects every 6 months to make sure your brake system is functioning properly. We specialize in brake repair services for the Saginaw area and look forward to keeping you safe on the road.
